The first settlers came to this territory, now Miniota Municipality in 1879. The name Miniota was decided upon - "Minnie" the Sioux word for water and "ota" for plenty. The Rural Municipality of Miniota consists of five communities, they are Arrow River, Beulah, Crandall, Isabella and Miniota. Each community brings it's own interests and activities to the Municipality, making the Municipality full of life and always an exciting place to reside or visit. The RM of Miniota is home to many BUSINESSES. Businesses located within the Municipality include agriculture, carpenters, welders, electricians, groceries, fuel stations, restaurants, hotels, greenhouses, salons and banking services; as well as many home based businesses. If you are interested in starting a business in the Municipality you can contact the Miniota Community Development Corporation www.miniotacdc.com/. Also available within the Municipality is an infinite range of leisure, recreational and entertainment activities. Being situated atop the Assiniboine Valley provides residents and visitors, not only with a phenomenal view, but also creates many opportunities for fun. The Municipality provides ample opportunities for fishing, hunting, river canoeing, swimming and hiking. Miniota's 9-hole GOLF COURSE & CAMPGROUND is a challenging course with many tournaments held throughout the season. HOOPER'S LAKE, located west of BEULAH, provides the Municipality with summer swimming lessons, Family Day & Slo Pitch Tournament, Annual Buck Night, as well as fishing and camping www.hooperslake.com/. ARROW RIVER has their annual Canada Day Celebration, which provides residents and visitors with a day of slo pitch, family games, and of course fireworks. ISABELLA is home to five museums, the Iverach House, Heise House, CWDS House, The Old Store, and The Barn. For more information regarding the Museums you may contact Bernice Still. During the 3rd weekend in July MINIOTA hosts their annual Summer Bonspiel, providing young and old the opportunity to curl in the summer, with a variety of other activities including a golf tournament, and evening socials, for one and all. The SILVER BEND HIKING TRAIL is located just north of MINIOTA for residents and visitors to enjoy an historical trail along the edge of the valley. Just added to the trail in 2008 is the Wakpa Tanka Lookout Site which provides a glimpse into aboriginal heritage and culture. |
